<p>Uranos ist einer der <a href="Protogenoi" class="mw-redirect" title="Protogenoi">Protogenoi</a>, der ältesten Götter der Elemente und der Erstgeborene der <a href="Gaia_(Mythologie)" title="Gaia (Mythologie)">Gaia</a> („Erde“), den sie ohne <a href="Begattung" title="Begattung">Begattung</a> durch <a href="Eros_(Mythologie)" title="Eros (Mythologie)">Eros</a> im Schlafe hervorbrachte, „dass er sie immer umgebe und dass er auf ewige Zeit der seligen Götter sichere Wohnung sei“.<sup id="cite_ref-2" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-2"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>2<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> Mit Uranos kam das männliche Element in die Welt.

<p>Mit seiner Mutter Gaia hatte Uranos viele Nachkommen: zwölf <a href="Titan_(Mythologie)" title="Titan (Mythologie)">Titanen</a>,<sup id="cite_ref-3" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-3"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>3<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> drei <a href="Kyklop" title="Kyklop">Kyklopen</a><sup id="cite_ref-4" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-4"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>4<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> und drei <a href="Hekatoncheiren" title="Hekatoncheiren">Hekatoncheiren</a>.<sup id="cite_ref-5" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-5"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>5<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> Alle diese Kinder waren ihm verhasst, er verbarg sie in der Tiefe der Erde, im <a href="Tartaros" title="Tartaros">Tartaros</a>. Diese böse Tat erfreute ihn, so erzählt es Hesiod.<sup id="cite_ref-6" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-6"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>6<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> Und sie erboste Gaia, die daraufhin den „grauen Stahl“ (<a href="Adamant" title="Adamant">Adamas</a>, das „Unbezwingliche“, dem Menschen nicht zugängliche Metall) hervorbrachte, um daraus eine gewaltige <a href="Sichel_(Werkzeug)" title="Sichel (Werkzeug)">Sichel</a> zu fertigen, und ihre Söhne anstiftete, den Vater zu bekämpfen. Alle erschraken. Doch der Titan <a href="Kronos" title="Kronos">Kronos</a> erklärte sich schließlich bereit, diese Aufgabe zu übernehmen, da Uranos tatsächlich als erster eine schändliche Tat begangen habe, indem er seine Kinder im Tartaros einsperrte.<sup id="cite_ref-7" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-7"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>7<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>

</p><p>Als sich Uranos das nächste Mal mit Gaia vereinigen wollte, <a href="Kastration" title="Kastration">entmannte</a> ihn Kronos<sup id="cite_ref-8" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-8"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>8<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> mit dieser Sichel. Uranos verfluchte den Sohn, der ihn verraten hatte, dass ihm dasselbe geschehen möge und er von seinen eigenen Kindern hintergangen werde. Aus den Blutstropfen, die auf die Erde fielen, gebar Gaia die drei <a href="Erinnyen" title="Erinnyen">Erinnyen</a> (Furien), die <a href="Gigant_(Mythologie)" title="Gigant (Mythologie)">Giganten</a> und die <a href="Meliaden" title="Meliaden">Meliaden</a> (Meliai – die Melischen Nymphen – Eschennymphen – <a href="Dryade" title="Dryade">Dryaden</a>).<sup id="cite_ref-9" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-9"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>9<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> Seither verfolgen die Erinnyen jede Verletzung mütterlicher Ansprüche, selbst wenn diese nicht gerechtfertigt sind, in weiterer Folge aber auch jede Verletzung einer Rangordnung, die durch eine Blutsverwandtschaft bedingt ist.

</p><p>Aus dem Samen des abgeschnittenen Geschlechtsteils, welches ins Meer fiel, entstand <a href="Aphrodite" title="Aphrodite">Aphrodite</a>,<sup id="cite_ref-10" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-10"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>10<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> die somit älteste <a href="Olympische_G%C3%B6tter" title="Olympische Götter">olympische Göttin</a>. Nach <a href="Homer" title="Homer">Homer</a> ist Aphrodite allerdings die Tochter des <a href="Zeus" title="Zeus">Zeus</a><sup id="cite_ref-11" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-11"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>11<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> und der Dione.<sup id="cite_ref-12" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-12"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>12<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> <a href="Kronos" title="Kronos">Kronos</a> übernahm die <a href="Weltherrschaft" title="Weltherrschaft">Weltherrschaft</a>, bis auch er von seinem Sohn Zeus gestürzt wurde.<sup id="cite_ref-13" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-13"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>13<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>

</p><p>Mit der Erzählung der <a href="Entmannung" title="Entmannung">Entmannung</a> des Uranos nimmt die <a href="Urzeugung" class="mw-redirect" title="Urzeugung">Urzeugung</a> zwischen Himmel und Erde in der griechischen Mythologie ihr Ende; Uranos selbst spielt in den weiteren Erzählungen keine Rolle mehr. Von seinen Nachkommen haben die Titanen die größte Bedeutung, denn von ihnen stammen auch die späteren <a href="Olympische_G%C3%B6tter" title="Olympische Götter">olympischen Götter</a> ab.
